The Classroom
The Montessori Materials in the classroom can be divided into six main
areas: Practical Life (transferring, pouring, & sorting); Sensorial
(education of the senses); Language (sandpaper letters, metal insets, moveable
alphabets) Mathematics (self-discovery of all math concepts) Culture (appreciation & awareness
of other cultures, animals, clothing, customs, language, geography, science & history)
and The Arts (music appreciation & visual exploration)
Maria Montessori named her first Montessori School in Rome, Casa dei Bambini
(The Children’s House). We believe the Montessori classroom is indeed
designed to be the child’s house.
The tables and chairs in the classroom are custom built to the child’s size. The shelves are low and within reach of even the youngest student. The children also work on small mats and rugs on the floor where they are naturally comfortable.
The classroom is created to feel like a home. It is designed with earth tones, lamp lighting, low sinks, all the comforts of home. Within this setting, the child has the freedom to choose what most interests him/her.
Maria Montessori inspired educational ideas of hands-on-learning that have taken hold all over the world! We hope that you will consider this method of learning for your child. Thank you.
